Why name a hotel in the heart of Beirut after an old Japanese tradition?
The short answer would be "why not" but that wouldn’t pay homage to the true reason behind this choice; if the origin of the name stems from a Japanese technique to repair broken china and apply golden lacquer to its cracks, a more symbolic explanation introduces resilience and second chances.

Kintsugi is a reminder that any wound can be beautiful, any broken object or human can have a second chance after being broken. Which is what happened to Beirut after the August 4th port explosion. The Mar Michael neighborhood was heavily destroyed, the house where Kintsugi now resides was heavily damaged and the project founder, Olivier Gasnier-Duparc was living close-by when he was injured in the blast. They all overcame their situation and are now living a new chapter in their life. Even more importantly, Kintsugi is a tale of friendship as a group of friends gathered to bring this project to life and as each room is decorated with works of art provided by friends, giving them their names.

Kintsugi is about life, creativity, positivity, inclusivity, friendship and sharing.

"Very artsy hotel and restaurant. Stayed for one night and the room has everything you need. Confortable bed, quite and functional. All with so much style. The restaurant is also outstanding. You should not miss the bao buns and the lemon pasta! Cocktails are also TOP! Will definitely come back next time I’m in Beirut."
